Iris Jean Davis Pennington, 78, of 276 Timber Road, Barren Springs, Va., died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Pulaski County on March 31, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Henry A. Davis and Effie Robertson Adams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ray Harold Pennington; by a son, Danny M. Pennington; by sisters, Evelyn Bratton and Lula Dawn Richardson; and by her brothers, Pierce Adams, Henry A. Davis Jr., Thomas Davis, Kyle A. “Bobby” Davis and Mark Andrew Davis.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Dana Pennington, of Martinsville, David and Alice Pennington, of Barren Springs, and Roger and Sandy Pennington, of Pulaski; daughter-in-law, Joan Pennington Aliff, of Snowville; special sister and caregiver, Louise Harris, of Barren Springs; sister, Elizabeth Seagle, of Dublin; brothers, Joseph Earl Davis, of Richmond, and James Roy Davis, of Bassett; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Rev. Dale Akers, the Rev. Randall Lawrence and the Rev. Brian Wyke officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be held on Friday evening, April 24, 2009, from the Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
