Kelley, Sara (Sally) Lois

Sara (Sally) Lois Kelley, 70, passed away August 27, 2015 at the LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg, VA. Born in North Carolina, Sally was the eldest child of the late James P. and Ruth A. Kelley.

Raised in Ohio, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Kent State University in 1968.

As a career educator, Sally was member of the faculty of the Middle and High schools in the Chariho Regional School district in Wood River Jct., RI. She served as a social studies and English teacher but upon completing graduate coursework in library science spent the majority of her career as a school librarian. After her retirement, she continued to work with books and education as a bookstore clerk, which mainly paid for her book habit, as well as an English tutor for the athletic department at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

Sally was an active member of her community wherever she lived whether as a church member including the First Seventh Day Baptist Church of Hopkinton in Ashaway, RI; a book club participant; animal rescue volunteer; or member of the American Association of University Women. She loved mystery novels and black cat figurines as well as her beloved pet cats and of course, her family.

Following her divorce, she raised three beautiful daughters as a single parent. She is survived by Lani M. (Dingman) Siciliano and her husband, Joseph of Monroe, CT; Melanie L. (Dingman) LaSelle and her husband, Rush of Lone Tree, CO; and Nancy J. (Dingman) Parks and her husband, Michael of Albuquerque, NM as well as her eleven grandchildren: Samuel Siciliano, Matthew Siciliano, Kyra Siciliano, Maya Siciliano, Nathaniel Parks, Rush LaSelle, Joseph Siciliano, Ryan Parks, Torin LaSelle, Olivia LaSelle and Thomas Siciliano. In addition she is survived by her siblings Richard Kelley, Brian Kelley, Patricia Federico and Kathy Humphrey and many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents noted above as well as her siblings Brendan Kelley and Connie Kelley.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
