Lester, Emma Elizabeth Conley
Emma Elizabeth Conley Lester, 88 of Narrows went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5th, 2009 at her home.A lifelong resident of Giles County, she was born on August 19th, 1920 and was the daughter of the late Elijah and May Gore Conley.
In addition to her mother and father, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gartha Elbert Lester; a sister, Jessie Nelson; and two brothers, Clayton and Robert Conley.
She was a faithful member of Hales Chapel United Methodist Church for many years. A humble and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her three children, Janice Hamman of Vancouver, Wash., Phyllis Goodwin and husband Bob of Tucker, Ga., and Gary Lester and wife Inez of Narrows, whom Emma considered a third daughter; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Clyde Conley of Stephenson, W.Va.; a sister, Lucy Campbell of Narrows; and several nieces, nephews and cousins; and an extended family including the Charles Burton family, Margaret Richardson and family, Phyllis Hughes and family, Wilma and Johnny Stafford and family, Olivia and Jim Stowers, and Richard and Cledus Burton and family.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 9th, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Hales Chapel United Methodist Church on Wolf Creek Road in Narrows with the Rev. Leon O’Quinn and Dr. Thomas Conley officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Friends may call at Riffe’s Funeral Service in Narrows Wednesday after 3 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 9 p.m.
