Nichols, Dixie Bell Shepley

She was raised in a military family where she lived in Panama and all across the United States as a child. In her adulthood, she resided in Montgomery County, Md., wither her husband and family. After the unexpected death of her husband, she made the move to Floyd County, Va., where she lived for the past 31 years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel Bush Nichols Sr. Survivors include her three children, Deanna Nichols Boswell, Daniel Bush Nichols Jr. and Dean Barrett Nichols and his wife, Edie Nichols. Dixie is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Kimberly Boswell Jr., Edward and Coleen Boswell, William and Kelli Boswell, David and Christy Boswell, James and Julie Boswell, Jessica and Matthew Gallimore, Jacqueline and Jonathan Walker, Daniel Bush and Jessi Nichols III, Dean Barrett and Kandace Nichols Jr., Lawrence Nichols, and Brittany Nichols; great-grandchildren, Julianna and Mitchell Boswell, and Edward Jr. and Nicholas Boswell, Colin and Delaney Boswell, Hannah, Noah, and Bekah Boswell, Georgia Dixie Boswell, Hunter and Melanie Gallimore, Ayden, Maverick and Natalie Walker. Dixie was always very involved in her community and was a member of the Floyd Garden Club, Friends of the Library, Floyd County Woman’s Club, DAR Richard Arnold Chapter (MD), and DAR Courthouse Chapter (Floyd), and served as Regent of both chapters. She was also a member of the Olney/Sunshine Homemakers Club and Floyd Homemakers Club, the Wednesday Club, and several bridge groups both in Maryland and Virginia. She also participated in advanced aerobics for many years and loved all kinds of sports. She enjoyed life and spending time with others. She was a lady from head to toe, skirt to hat, earrings to lipstick. She was always dressed to impress. In addition to her attire, her personality was a unique twist of spunk and class, the makings of a dynamic woman. Dixie, Mom, “Mema” you are deeply missed and treasured always. Services will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church in Floyd County, Va., on Friday, July 23, 2010, 9 a.m. (visitation) and 10 a.m. (service). The burial service will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2010, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md. Arrangements by Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.
