Hoel, Lona Tibbs

amem-bible1Lona Tibbs Hoel, age 79 of Pulaski, died Monday evening July 20, 2015. She was born on September 25, 1935 in Smyth County, and was the daughter of the late Foy Holmes and Isabell Tibbs. Lona was born and raised in Smyth County, and was proud to be a member of the Marion High School Class of 1955, and was very fond of her classmates who gathered routinely for reunions. Lona was retired from the Kollmorgen Corporation in Radford, where she worked for 26 years. She enjoyed community work and served for 10 years with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Pulaski. She enjoyed her association with the Red Hat Society in Pulaski, and formerly served as the Queen of the Southern Scarlett Hatters. She was particularly proud of her work with Christian Business and Professional Women’s Club of Pulaski, and served on their executive board. She was involved in the church from the time she was a small child, and was a member of Faith Bible Church in Pulaski. She formerly worked with the lay ministry program at Central United Methodist Church in Radford. She loved music, enjoyed photography, and never missed a chance to travel. She is survived by a daughter, Monica Hoel of Emory; a sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Mary Tibbs of Windsor, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family is grateful to devoted caretakers Nellie Pettit and Maxine Grimes, the Rev. Jim Linkous of Faith Bible Church, the staff of Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center and the caring neighbors of Bainbridge Avenue. A service of celebration for Lona’s life will take place on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home in Pulaski with the Rev. Jim Linkous officiating. There will be no visitation, but family members will be available at the conclusion of the service. Friends are welcome at a graveside service at Roselawn Cemetery in Marion at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24.
