Michael W. (Mike) Poore of Christiansburg, Va., passed away at his residence on Monday, February 16, 2009, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Pulaski on December 31, 1954, and was the son of Ruby K. Poore and the late Jesse Junior Poore.

Mike graduated from Pulaski High School, New River Community College and Virginia Tech. He was a loyal and dedicated employee of American Electric Power (Appalachian) for 31 years. Mike had many interests. He liked hunting and spending time outdoors with his beloved brittany spaniel, Molly. He was an avid game player and loved to travel. Cooking, golf and movies were also among his many interests. He was a member of the Pulaski Elks Club and Round Meadows Country Club, past member of Thornspring Country Club and the Pulaski Jaycees. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Pulaski where he held various positions.

Celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary on Valentine’s Day, Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Julie Gray Poore; daughters, Michelle Poore, of Washington, D.C., Jessica Poore, of Warrenton, Va., and Megan Poore, of Pulaski; stepsons, Eric E. Hoback and his fianc�e, Christie Newman, and B. Todd Hoback and his wife, Marty; and brother and sisterin-law, Mark and Sheri Poore, and their children, Luke and Seth, all of Roanoke. He was “grand-poo” to his special beloved granddaughters, Emily and Ella Hoback; and special boys, Caleb and Shane Perfater; aunts, Edith McNeely, of Akron, Ind., Bonnie Harner, of Hampstead, Md., Betty Buckner, of Pulaski, and Carol Harrell, of Dublin; uncles, Hubert D. King Sr., of Marion, Don Poore, of Pulaski, Jack Poore, of Walland, Tenn., and William Poore, of Tallahassee, Fla. He was the loving son-in-law of Grayson “Danny” and Estlee Gray; brothers-in-law and wives, David and Pat Worrell, of Draper, Wayne and Saundra Gray, of Pulaski, and Kenneth and Joyce Gray, of Pulaski; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009, from Stevens Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Thornspring Cemetery, Pulaski County. Visiting will be Wednesday evening, February 18, 2009, from the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of one’s choice. Mike was a friend to all who knew him and will be missed by many. Mike’s family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all their relatives, friends and neighbors for all their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of their beloved husband and father, Mike Poore.
