Krebs, Robert Dixon

krebs_robert_dixonRobert Dixon Krebs, of Christiansburg, died at 4 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 in the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Va. with his loving wife by his side.Robert was born on March 12, 1931 in Gowanda, N.Y. He was the son of William Krebs and Nina Marion Eagleson.

Robert grew up in Gowanda, NY. At the age of fourteen he moved to Nutley, N.J. where he attended high school. He graduated from Rutgers University and then attended Purdue University and received a Ph.D. Robert taught Civil Engineering at Virginia Tech for thirty five years. He was assistant department head for twelve of those years.Robert loved playing tennis, listening to classical music, reading, gardening and writing poetry. But most of all he was a devoted husband and father. He was compassionate, helpful, kind and had a quick wit.

Survivors include his wife, Doris; son, Frederic (Cathy), of Fredericksburg, Va.; daughters, Caroline, of Marseille, France, Catherine of Blacksburg, Va., Amrita, of Charlotte, N.C., and Pamela (Eric) also of Charlotte, N.C; grandchildren include Robert Krebs, Ryan Mowrey, Maria and Jacob Zullo and Alex, Ava Rose and Sophia Tan. Siblings are Bill Krebs of Albuqueque, N.M., Carol Pedone and husband, Cliff, of Serverna Park, Md., numerous nieces and nephews, as well as extended family.He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He loved singing in the choir and did so for fifteen years.

A funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2015 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made sent to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or a charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015 at McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
