Journell, Donald Lee

Donald Lee Journell, 78, of Hill St. in Pearisburg, departed this life Wednesday evening, June 10, 2015, at Carilion Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg. Born in Pearisburg on September 1, 1936, he was a son of the late Roy Alvin and Margaret Marie Bales Journell.

He was retired from the Celanese Plant after many years of faithful service, was an avid outdoor sportsman, enjoyed his horses and trail rides, his coon dogs especially Cash and Preacher. His greatest achievement and joy in life was his family and had enjoyed supporting and sharing activities with his daughter and son-in-law; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren; and spent his last hours with them and sharing a meal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his best friend; and mother of his children, Linda Williams Journell.He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Ray Reed of Pembroke; his granddaughters and their husbands, Kalyn and Jason Ratcliff of Christiansburg, Lakyn and Josh Lawhorne of Pembroke; his great-grandchildren, Victoria, Elizabeth, Madisyn, Makenna, Aubree, Johnathan, Lane, and Walker; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard and June Journell of Narrows, Roger Journell of Vinton, Larry and Margie Journell of Pearisburg; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Level of Roanoke, Phyllis and Teddy Dennis of Pearisburg, Diane and Bobby Miles of Pearisburg, Gerry Torray of Potomac, Md.; his coon hounds, riding and hunting buddies and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday evening, June 14, 2015, at 5 p.m. in the Kendall Funeral Home, 605 Snidow St., Pembroke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. before the services. The family suggests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made in Don’s memory to Brain Cancer Research, the American Cancer Society, or Open Arms Alopecia Group.
