Engel, Janet A.

Janet A. Engel, 84, of Christiansburg, Va., died on Tuesday, January 6, 2009. She was born on October 13, 1924, to Elsie and B. Gregg Abbey. Janet graduated from Niagra Falls High School and from William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y. Janet taught math in Springville, N.Y. She was a member and past president of Concord Historical Society, DAR, Eastern Star, a member of Griffith Institute Faculty Association, and a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, of Springville, N.Y. She was also a member and past president of ECW. Janet was a devoted Christian. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A Engel, whom she married in 1952. She is survived by daughter and spouse, Charity and Mike Cheiky; sisters and spouse, Ginger Trautwein, and Rusty and Charles Shadel; nephews and their spouses, Gregg and Bonnie Shadel, Derrick and Peggy Shadel, and Verner Allen Hornquist; and many great-nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
