Pack, Angieline Jones

Angieline Jones Pack, 100, of Riner, Va., departed this life on Monday, January 3, 2009, at her home with her family members at her side. She was born on April 19, 1908, in Riner, Va., to the Rev. Thomas and Ellen Jones.

Being a lifetime member of Mt. Airy United Methodist Church, she held offices which included Sunday school teacher, church secretary, president of women’s society, pianist and programs chairman. She was the first black bus driver for black students from Riner to Christiansburg in the early 1950s. Angie was a member of the NAACP and served as delegate to the NAACP convention several times. She loved to cook, sew, and work outside gardening and growing beautiful flowers which she shared with the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; all siblings; her husband of 72 years, Joseph Homer Pack; one son, Claude L. Pack; and one grandson, Joseph W. Smith.

Angie leaves to cherish her 100 years of life, daughter, Alicia (W.G.) Black, of Riner, Va.; son, Joseph W. (Mae) Pack, of Riner, Va.; daughter-in-law and caregiver, Sandra Pack, of Radford, Va.; grandchildren, Raymond and Waymond, caregivers of Radford, Va., Cedric (Melody) Black, Kimberly (Mattew) Winston, Linda Pack, Eric (Trwringia) Pack, and Anthony Pack, great-grandchildren, Tevin, Heaven, Paris, London, and Isreal Black, Lesleigh and Kelleigh Smith, Haileigh Taylor, Joshua Smith, Tiohna, Chloe, Marcus, Winston, Malika and Lindsey Pack, Makenize Rose Pack; a granddaughter-in-law, Kesha Taylor; sister-in-law, Cora Pack; and numerous relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held noon on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at the Central United Methodist Church, Radford, Va., with the Rev. Teresa Talbert officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Mt. Airy Church Cemetery, Riner, Va. Penn’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
