Judith H. Bame, 71, of Blacksburg, died Friday, December 19, 2008 after a three-year battle with cancer. Judy was born in Trenton, N.J., on November 25, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, George A. and Helen Carter Hess. Judy is survived by her husband of 48 years, Allen Bame; children, Michael, Shelley, Daniel, and Karla; seven grandchildren; and brother, Dale Hess. Judy graduated in Dairy Science from VPI, where she met Allen. She and Allen were married on June 25, 1960. In 1974, they settled back in Blacksburg where she received her Master’s Degree from Virginia Tech and worked as a lab specialist in the Dairy Science Department until she retired in 2003. Judy was a member of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church where she was involved in women’s circles and a quilting group. She was active in the Mt. Tabor Ruritan Club. Some of Judy’s favorite pastimes included sewing, quilting, and crafts. She was an avid collector of a variety of items, including cookbooks, especially those related to food history. She also enjoyed traveling with Allen to places such as England, Australia, The Netherlands, and throughout the United States. She enjoyed learning about histories and cultures of the places they traveled and researching her own family genealogy. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22 at 2 p.m. at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
