Newby, John Edward

John Edward Newby, 74, of Christiansburg, passed away at his home on Friday, November 21, 2008. He retired from the Steel Mill, in Baltimore, Md., after 30 years of service, in 1982. Mr. Newby had a great love for antique cars and auctions.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, John Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Margie Newby; three children, Phillip Newby, of Marion, Brenda Nagle and her husband, Robert Nagle, Pamela Akers and her husband, Donald Akers, all of Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Bradley Newby, of Blacksburg, Tony Akers and Brandon Akers, all of Christiansburg. He is also survived by his brothers, Richard Newby and his wife, Murrell, of Pulaski, Roger Jones, of Christiansburg; three sisters, Shirley Jones, of Pittsboro, N.C., Susie Baugh and her husband, Clinton, and Linda Scott, all of Roanoke, Va.

The family will receive friends at the Horne Funeral Home Sunday, November 23, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Horne Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2008, with Pastor Ronnie Duncan officiating.
