Buchanan, Jentery Samuel Sr.

Jentery Samuel Buchanan, Sr. of Pulaski, Va., went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2006. He was born in North Carolina on March 9, 1926 and was the son of the late Edith Woody and Bryson Buchanan.

Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Laura Buchanan, Pulaski; sons and daughter-in-law, Samuel Buchanan, Pulaski, Stephen and Gayle Buchanan, Pulaski; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Henry Sayers, Draper, Rebecca and Charles Jackson, Dallas, Texas, Rometta and Curtis Carrico, Dublin; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; friend and neighbor of 40 years, Stan Rogers; sisters, Marie Young, Spruce Pine, N.C., Margaret Davis, Marion, N.C., Rometta Dean, Asheville, N.C.; brothers, Chreston Buchanan, Winston-Salem, N.C., Martin Buchanan, Celina, Texas.

Jentery was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for many years. He will be remembered as a loving and gentle husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jentery retired from Virginia Carolina Freight Lines in 1988 after 24 years of service.

His favorite past-time was cultivating beautiful roses which he loved to share with his friends and shut-ins in the community.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Philip Moran and Dr. Don Pegram officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.

Visiting will be Tuesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1652, Pulaski, Va. 24301 or to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.
