Childress, Wayne Walker

Wayne Walker Childress, 85, of Pulaski, died on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Born in Bland County, Va., he was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Walker Childress and Taulby B. Childress; sister, Ola M. Barrow; and brother, William S. Childress.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth S. Childress, of the home; his daughter, Melissa C. Newman and her husband, Grant, of Eustis, Fla.; sister, Eddith C. Stowers, of Fairlawn, Va.; brother, David J. Childress, of West Columbia, S.C.; brother, J. Robert Childress, of Alta Vista, Va.; sister, Marion C. Sarver, of Roxboro, N.C.; and wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.

Wayne retired from the United States Air Force, during which he served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pulaski, VA. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

The family members would like to thank their wonderful neighbors and friends who have helped Wayne during his illness. They also appreciate the gentle care from the doctors and nurses at Lewis Gale Hospital Pulaski, Pulaski Rehabilitation, DaVita of Radford, Va., and Intrepid Home Health Care of Radford, Va.

An interment service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, Va. with the Reverend Hugh Kilgore, pastor at First United Methodist Church of Pulaski, will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to be made to any humane society.
