Callahan, Shaylen Ryan
Beloved brother, beloved son, now forever young. Our precious Shaylen Ryan Callahan flew on the wings of the angels to heaven on February 23rd, 2015 at 8:26 pm after an anoxic brain injury in December.
He was born April 3, 2001 in Christiansburg VA, the son of Andrew Callahan and Samantha (Dudderar) Hammond. He attended 8th grade in York County Schools and lived on his farm in Stewartstown, PA.
Shaylen participated in many activities including Karate, Wrestling, Airsoft, 4-Wheeling, Archery, Water sports, Video Gaming, Horsemanship and Baseball. He excelled at school and was his mom’s greatest helper. Whenever asked, he stepped up. Whenever he greeted you, it was with a bear-hug and a wide grin. Shaylen was a handsome young man so full of life that many would call him boisterous. He was certainly a wonderful son and brother and his outgoing and friendly demeanor made him a great friend. With his great sense of humor, you might never expect the next adventure his vivid imagination would take you down. Compassionate and brilliantly smart, all who loved him will all have a giant Shay-shaped hole in us that we will never be able to fill.
Shay is survived by his parents, Richard & Samantha Hammond and Andrew Callahan of Fallston, MD. He also leaves his “Irish Twin” Alaura Callahan, (15), Angelina Hammond, (8), and Caiden Hammond, (5) of Stewartstown, PA. His paternal grandparents, John Callahan of Florida, and Cindy Callahan of Maryland and Maternal Grandparents, Gary and Marie Dudderar of Michigan, and Sandra & Sid Baldwin of Riner, Virginia and Linda Hammond of Maryland. He is also survived by his maternal great-grandfather, Clifford Forman, of NY. Numerous extended family members and friends also struggle with his loss.
Visitation will be Friday evening February 27th, 7-9 pm at J J Hartenstein, Mortuary Inc. 19 South Main Street Stewartstown, PA 17363 (717) 993-2307. Service will be held at Living Word Community Church at 11 am this Saturday, February 28th at 2530 Cape Horn Rd., Red Lion, PA 17356. http://lwccyork.com/
In lieu of traditional cut flower arrangements, the family suggests perennials and decorations that can be planted or used this Spring in Shay’s memorial garden. The altar arrangement is being handled by Flowers by Laney and they are familiar with the family’s wishes. http://www.flowersbylaney.com/
