Craig, Lilburn A.

Lilburn A. Craig, 82, of Ballard, W.Va., passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital, Pearisburg, Va. He was born April 21, 1926, at Rich Creek, Va. and was the son of the late E. Opie Craig Sr. and Ruth Bouldin Craig. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Craig and one brother, E.O. Craig Jr.

He was a World War II United States Army Veteran, serving with Patton’s 3rd Army 94th Division, 302k company. He was a Sergeant with the 6850th Internal Security Detachment that provided security for the International Military Tribunal during the Nurnberg Trials in Nurnberg, Germany. He attended Cashmere Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Celanese Corporation.

He is survived by his loving wife, Madeline Lowry Craig; special niece, Sharyn Jennings and husband, John, of Narrows, Va.; two nephews, Mike Craig and wife, Vielka, and Scott Craig and wife, Leanna, all of Narrows, Va.; several greatnieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, W.Va., with Pastors John Offenberger and Joe Spencer officiating. Burial with graveside Military Rites will follow at the Sunrise Memorial Garden Cemetery, Rich Creek, Va.
