Barker, Gilbert Raymond

Gilbert Raymond Barker, 82, of Pulaski, Va., died Tuesday morning, August 12, 2008, in the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born in Ashe County, N.C., he was the son of the late James Avery Barker and Jestine Stuart Barker. He was also proceeded in death by his first wife, Margaret O’Neal Barker.

Mr. Barker was the retired owner and operator of the Pulaski Market on Valley Road in Pulaski. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and William Kelly, of Ocean Isle, N.C.; grandson, Andy Harrison, of Richmond, Va.; wife and her children, Ellen Marie Barker, David Salmons, Diane Jackson, Linda Gallimore and Ellen Sawyers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008, from the Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Pegram and the Rev. Phillip Moran officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin, Va. Visiting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, August 13, 2008, at the funeral home.
