Reynolds, Katherine Lucas

Katherine Lucas Reynolds of Bland, Va. died Sunday, December 28, 2014. Mrs. Reynolds was born in Blacksburg on March 16, 1924, the daughter of Hatcher and Betty Lucas. She is preceded in death by Ralph Reynolds, her husband for 62 years, and three brothers, Don, Ray and Danny Lucas.

She is survived by three sisters, Shirley Reiva and husband, Gene, Bonnie Albert and husband, Jimmy, and Joyce Robinson, all of Blacksburg, son, R. Dale Reynolds of Haymarket, daughter, Susan and husband, John Guthrie, of Lyndhurst, Va., She is also survived by three grandsons, Adam Parks and wife, Nikki of Stuarts Draft, Va., Patrick Reynolds and wife, Krissy of Winchester and Josh Reynolds, of Las Vegas. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Sierra, Devon, and Mason Reynolds, and Ava Parks.

Katherine’s family, including her cousin Sherry Burke, were very supportive of her, helping to celebrate her birthdays and take her shopping. Some of them checked on her daily. She recently remarked how fortunate she had been to live a long healthy life and the joy she had gotten from flower gardening, reading and traveling with her husband.

Mrs. Reynolds graduated from Blacksburg High School, Radford College and received her Masters Degree from Virginia Tech. she served in the WAVES during WWII. She taught in Bland County Schools for 19 years and worked as a tutor for the Bland County Literacy Board after that. She worked several years as Bland County Voting Registrar. She belonged to Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Bland County Historical Society. She had served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Bland County Home Demonstration Club. Katherine was an active member of the Bland United Methodist Church and was chairperson of the Board of Trustees.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Shake Smith, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bland County Fire Department or the Bland County Rescue Squad. The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm Friday afternoon at McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
