Smith, Mary Agnes

Mary Agnes Smith, 79, of Blacksburg, Va., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Friday, July 4, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

She was a faithful member of Fairview Community Church where she taught kindergarten and primary Sunday School classes for many years. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Isaac S. and Agnes S. Hamlin, sisters, Ruby Hamlin, Nellie Hall, Alice Burton, Ruth Pearman and brother, Isaac F. Hamlin.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, H. M. “Shorty” Smith, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Philip Caldwell; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Kerri Smith, sons, David Smith and Larry Smith; and special granddaughter, Amanda Caldwell. Other survivors are, brother, Albert Hamlin and wife, June; also sisters-in-law, Phoebe Hamlin, Louise Smith and brother-in-law Herman Pearman; special lifelong friend and cousin Eula Hutchison along with many relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Fairview Community Church, 3766 Glade Road, Blacksburg, Va. with the Rev. Jimmie Lee Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg, Va.

Friends may call any time after 12 noon Sunday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg.
