Hodge, Harry Preston

Harry Preston Hodge, 89, of Blacksburg, passed from this life on June 29, 2008 at his home. He was born in Eggleston, Va. on December 26, 1918 to the late William Henry and Bertie Sartin Hodge.

He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Hodge, James Hodge, Maynard Hodge, Lewis (Monk) Hodge and by his sisters, Mary Latta, Louisa (Sissie) Church, Isabel Drinkwater, May Cromer.

He retired from the Navy Department with 26 years of service and Heritage Hall where he was chief maintenance engineer with 14 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Polly; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Gene and Dottie Hodge of Elliston, Ron and Darlene Hodge of Blacksburg; one brother, Arnold (Tooter) Hodge and wife, Dorothy of Blacksburg; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Lena Brooks of Salem, Margaret Fenton of Christiansburg, Patricia and Calvin Sweeney of Christiansburg; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Hodge and Dorothy Hodge both of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, four great-greatgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 1 .p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, Blacksburg.
