Radford, William Powell

William Powell Radford, 71, of Pembroke, departed this life Tuesday evening, June 3, 2008, in the loving care of his family at his home on Cascades Drive.

Born in that same house on December 13, 1936, he was a son of the late Kemper Lee and Edna Mae Williams Radford. Powell, a lifelong resident of Pembroke, was an enterprising man with a charming and winsome personality.

He was retired from The NorfolkSouthern Railway Company as a heavy equipment operator (a job he really enjoyed) and owned and operated a mobile home park near his home. He spent some really happy times riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle and supporting Virginia Tech football and sports with a passion. He was a Christian and member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church and was a regular worshiper at Bethel Chapel Church in Clendennin.

A sister, Edna Azell Radford, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Mary Beth Radford, of Cleveland, Tenn.; his two grandsons, Jordan and Joshua Radford, of Cleveland, Tenn.; the love of his life, Betty Johnson and her daughter, Shelley, of Pearisburg; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald Lee and Mary Elizabeth Radford, of Pembroke, Jewell Miller and Phyllis Cole Radford, of Big Stony at Goldbond; his sister and brother-in-law, Nannie Lou and James Martin; and niece, Abbey Joe, of Pembroke; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday evening, June 5, 2008, in the Kendall Funeral Home Chapel at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke with Pastor Eddie Kendall and Jordan Radford officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday morning, June 6, 2008, in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
