Raines, Bertha Sue

Bertha Sue Raines, 87, of Newport, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at her home.

She was born in Craig County, Va., on June 29, 1920, to the late Minor Harman and Ninnie Taylor Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moffett Harding Raines; and two brothers, Arthur Lee Duncan and Ralph Van Buren Duncan; and a grandchild, Stacy Raines. She was a member of Level Green Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald (Joe) and Judy Smith Raines, of Newport, Donald Raines ,of Bear Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, who was as close as a son, E.W. “Dub” and Madge Duncan, of Newport; special granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Mitzi and Kenneth Cumbee; special grandson and granddaughterin-law, Michael and Michelle Raines; other grandchildren, Arron Paul Raines and Kelly Ann Raines; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2008, in Level Green Christian Church with Sammy P. Shupe, Jack Ford and Mike W. Whitaker officiating. Interment will follow in the Level Green Christian Church Cemetery.

Friends may call anytime after 12 noon on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg, Va.
