Anneski, Anthony William
Dr. Anthony William Anneski, retired optometrist of 1016 Morehead Lane, Pulaski, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008, in the Pulaski Community Hospital, Pulaski, Va.
He was 84 years old. Anthony was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was born October 20, 1923, in Camden, N.J., and was the son of the late Anthony Anneski and Julia Anneski Bolker. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Peter J. Anneski and Stanley Anneski of New Jersey.
Surviving are his wife, Jean Merricks Anneski, Pulaski; son, Anthony William Anneski Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; daughter and sonin-law, Dr. Cynthia Jean Anneski and Russell O’Connor, Gilbert, Ariz.; grandsons, Scott Alexander O’Connor, Gilbert, Ariz., Viktor Anneski O’Connor, Gilbert, Ariz.
Dr. Anneski practiced optometry for over 40 years. He graduated from Southern College of Optometry, Memphis, Tenn. He was also a graduate of Emory & Henry College, received his Masters Degree in Education from Virginia Tech. He did graduate work in Children’s Vision at Gesell Institute of Child Development, New Haven, Conn. He was a Fellow of the Virginia Academy of Optometry, having served as secretary, vice-president and president. A Fellow of the American College of Optometric Physicians, serving on the Board of Directors and as President; Past Representative for Pulaski County to the New River Valley Mental Health and Mental Retardation Service Board, serving two terms as Chairman.
He was Past President and Lifetime member of the Dublin Lions Club and Past Chairman of the Town of Pulaski Planning Commission. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the 442nd Aircraft Carrier Division in France and Germany. He traveled to the Dominican Republic with the Christian Medical Mission Group of Illinois to examine eyes and fit glasses for the citizens there. He also went to a Leprosy Community to help serve those afflicted individuals. Dr. Anneski was a very dedicated and active citizen of his hometown, Pulaski. He truly believed that God’s most precious gifts was SIGHT.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, from the First United Methodist Church, Pulaski, with the Rev. Hugh Kilgore and the Rev. Wallis Brown officiating. There will be a visitation Wednesday at the church where the family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service hour. Entombment will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Altavista Memorial Park Mausoleum. There will be Military Graveside Rites. The family wishes that donations be made to the Dublin Lions Club Visions Program, P.O. Box 1225, Dublin, Va. 24084 or to the First United Methodist Church, 135 Fourth St., N.E., Pulaski, Va. 24301.
