Shaver, Alford Newton

amem-fiddle2Alford Newton Shaver, 80, of Blacksburg died, Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at his home. He was born in Virginia on July 27, 1934 to the late Ellett and Gracie Reed Shaver. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Beulah Cumbee Shaver; one brother, William Shaver; one grandchild.

Alford worked for and retired from the Town of Blacksburg. Alford was a talented self taught musician and was an avid fiddle player. He enjoyed keeping bees and often gifted honey to his friends and family. Alford shared his love of nature and wildlife with his family.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Lee and Amanda Shaver, of Pembroke, Timmy Lynn Shaver of Tenn., Terry Wayne and Sharon Shaver, Clintwood, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Johnny White, of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Brian Shaver, Ashley Gray and husband, Terence, Erica Shaver, Tiara Shaver, Wyatt Shaver, Morgan Shaver; great-grandchildren, Kaleb and Victoria Gray; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Margie Cumbee, of Salem.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.Monday, October 27, 2014 in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Tim Cox and Pastor Jube Burk officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, October 26, 2014 at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
