Johnson, Eric Wakeman

Eric Wakeman Johnson, 83, of Blacksburg, formerly of St. Albans, Vt., died September 4, 2014. The son of Hallie and Hoyt Johnson, Eric was a native of Vt. He received his undergraduate degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his doctorate from Cornell University. He served as an officer in the Navy on the USS Intrepid during the Korean Conflict.

After leaving the Navy, he worked for IMB for 35 years. Eric had a great appreciation for nature; he was a master gardener and created beautiful wood carvings of birds. Also a lover of animals, he once served as President of the St. Albans Humane Society. Additionally, he was an avid golfer and bridge player. Eric is survived by his wife, Anne Parker Johnson, of Va.; daughter, Alice Johnson of Vt.; sons, Robert Johnson of Mass., and Mark Johnson of Texas; three step sons, William Langley of Va., Steven Langley (Michele) of N.C., Jefferson Langley (Melissa) of Va.; one step-daughter, Suzanne Claxton (Roger) of Va.; and eight grandchildren. A gathering of remembrance will held 2 p.m. in Blacksburg, on October 5, 2014, in the Karr Center at Warm Hearth Village. In lieu of flowers, the family would be pleased for donations to be sent in Eric’s honor to the Franklin County Humane Society (30 Sunset Meadow, St. Albans VT 05478).
