Conner, Maynard Calvin

Dr. Maynard Calvin Conner, 101, of Villa Hills, Ky., and formerly of Blacksburg, Va., passed away on September 29, 2014 at his residence. He was a professor of agricultural economics at Virginia Tech for 33 years, a member of the Blacksburg Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion.

He was awarded the silver star as a captain of company D, third Marine division in Bougainville, Solomon Islands in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Posie and Mae Conner; his brothers, P.C., Leonard, and Moir Conner. He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Lucy Conner; his daughter, Dr. Beth Jackson, both of Villa Hills; his grandson, Dr. Harrison Jackson of Charlottesville, Va.; and his sister, Lillian Turner of Woolwine, Va. A graveside service will take place at a later date in Virginia.
