Haymore, Charles Lester
Charles Lester Haymore, 87, passed away on September 23, 2014, in Knoxville, TN. He was a long time resident of Pulaski, VA, where he served on the Pulaski Volunteer Fire Department for 59 years and was a State Fire Instructor where he travelled Southwest Virginia teaching firefighting skills.
He was also a life member of the “Southwest Virginia Fireman’s Association, a member of the Virginia State Fireman’s Association. He was also the owner and operator of the Freezer Fresh restaurant and Quality Home Equipment pet store. He also worked at AT&T/Lucent for 10 years before retiring. He was also Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 345 where he was awarded the Silver Beaver award, the highest award in scouting. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy May Hall Haymore and his parents Emmett and Hattie Horton Haymore. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Brenda Riggle Haymore; granddaughter, Molly Haymore; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Aust and Sharon Hall; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was a former resident of the Pulaski Retirement Community until its closing in 2012 when he moved to Manorhouse Assisted Living in Knoxville, TN. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Knoxville, TN, and a former member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, and Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Pulaski, VA. We would like to thank the staffs of Manorhouse Assisted Living, Davita Dialysis, and Parkwest hospital for caring for “Charlie” during the last several years. After his passing, his granddaughter, Molly, wrote “Charlie Haymore was very well-known in Virginia where he lived most of his life before moving to Knoxville Tennessee. In Knoxville he joined the Methodist Church was at Manorhouse Assisted Living. His life was full of adventure, full of laughter, full of love, full of hope, full of truth, honesty, family, friends and full of life. Charlie Haymore’s spirit did not die with him. He lives through all of us through our hearts and minds. Charlie Haymore’s legacy lives on and it will live on through the work he did in Virginia and in Knoxville. We
should try and be like him with his achievements and goals. He was and still is the best person I know I admire him so much for everything he did. Visitation will be held Friday, September 26 from 4 to 7 pm. at Seagle Funeral Home in Pulaski,
VA with the funeral on Saturday, September 27, at 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, VA. The family will gather at the home of Evelyn Aust immediately following the visitation and the funeral service. Graveside service will follow at Thornspring Cemetery where complete fire department honors will be performed by Pulaski Fire Department. A memorial celebration will be held at Manorhouse Assisted Living, 8501 S. Northshore Dr., Knoxville, TN, on October 12, 2014. Pall bearers and honorary pall bearers will be members of the Pulaski Fire Department and other fire departments. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Red Cross, or the Joy Ranch.
