Mills, Gladys Layne

Gladys Layne Mills, 99, of Lafayette. Born October 11, 1914, died, August 23, 2014, less than 2 months before her 100th birthday. She was preceded in death by parents, Ellis and Maude Layne of Christiansburg; 2 sisters, Louse Sheppard of Christiansburg, and Helen L. Butt of Winston Salem, N.C.; and belived husband, Howard Lee Mills of Lafayette.

She is survived by daughter, Millie M. Apgar and son in law Don Apgar; sister, Beatrice Butt of Lafayette; serveral nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; also great great nieces and nephews; sister in law, Martha J. Mills of Salem; honorary son, Larry Lefler of Lafayette. Gladys was a long time member of Lafayette United Methodist Church and President of the United Methodist Women for over 25 years, until she became disabled. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, with the Rev. David Mucha of Crockett Springs United Methodist and the Rev. Emery Tarpley officiateing. Burial will follow the service in Sherwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Monday, August 25, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lotz Salem Chapel.
