Fred Randolph “Speedy” Duncan, 88, of Christiansburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 21, 2009. He was born July 5, 1920 in Floyd County to the late John B. and Virgie Phillips Duncan.

He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Army in the American Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was a member of the VFW and DAV. He retired from the Radford Arsenal after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Reba Mitchell Duncan; a son Larry Duncan of Roanoke, VA; a daughter, Betty Gay of Roanoke, VA; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Harless Sweeney and her husband Vernon Sweeney of Christiansburg, VA; brother and sister-in-law Vance and Lena Duncan of Christiansburg, VA; 3 grandchildren: Keith Harless of Rocky Mount, VA, Kevin Harless of Roanoke, VA, and Joy Perfater of Christiansburg, VA; 6 great grandchildren: Abigail Harless, Chris Harless, Brandon Harless, Jessica Perfater, Jordan Perfater, and Jasmine Perfater and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Salem Health and Rehab. Center for their care and compassion for Fred.

A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday May 26, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 from 12:00 until time of service at Horne Funeral Home.
