Vaught, Lucy Belle Meredith

Lucy Belle Meredith Vaught, 100, of Snidow St. in Pembroke, departed this life Saturday morning, February 23, 2008 at her home in the loving care of her family.

Born in Giles County on July 7, 1907 she was a daughter of the late William Gilbert and Katherine Missouri Gordon Meredith. She was a member of Pembroke First United Methodist Church, and had worked as a telephone operator for C & P Telephone Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Michael Vaught, a son-in-law, Richard Williams, a brother, Clinton Meredith, and sisters, Myrtle Britts and Eva Bowles. She leaves to cherish and love her memory her beloved daughter and caregiver, Jane V. Williams of the home; grandchildren and their spouses, Michael and Sheree Williams of Chilhowie and Michele and Richard Shumaker of Riner; great-grandchildren Ashley Ann Williams and Randy Ward, Madison Kate Shumaker, Logan Hunter Shumaker; and a great-great-granddaughter, Cassie Nicole Ward; sister-in-law, Avis Meredith of Staunton; special friends and neighbors, Darlene Williams, Lois Breeding, Ronnie and Violet Brumfield, Oma Vance; a special and caring niece, Nancy Falls and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Pembroke First United Methodist Church with her pastor the Rev. Bill Greer, the Rev. Raymond S. Kelley and Pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
