McCoy, Mary Elizabeth Lucas

Mary Elizabeth Lucas McCoy, 97, of McCoy, died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Mountain View Nursing Home, Aroda, Va. She was born in Giles County, Va. on July 18, 1908 to the late William C. and Birdie Mae Collins Lucas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Seymour McCoy; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth A. McCoy and Jack G. Albert; a grandson, George S. McCoy; a granddaughter, Mary A. James; a great-granddaughter, Callie M. Heddin; a brother, W. Colburn Lucas; two sisters, Claudine L. Albert and Evelyn L. Rumberg.

She retired from the Food Services Department at Virginia Tech, was a charter member of the Golden Years Club and a member of the Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, W.S. (Buddy) and June McCoy of McCoy, Beverly Wayne and Ruth Ann McCoy of Max Meadows; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis M. and Gene Martin of Ruther Glen, Va., Hilda M. and Tracy Walker of Charlottesville; a sister, Emma Lucas Williams of Pearisburg; three sisters-in-law, Loraine Lucas of Pembroke, Ruth McCoy of McCoy, Rachel McCoy of McCoy; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. in Centennial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with the Rev. Gordon Lee and Mr. Bobby Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in the McCoy Family Cemetery, McCoy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Golden Years Club, c/o Nellie Broce, 4560 Straley Valley, Blacksburg, Va. 24060 or the Blue Ridge Christian Camp, P.O. Box 428, McCoy, Va. 24111.

Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Saturday and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.
