Douthat, George Hamilton

George Hamilton Douthat, 92, of Hoge Ave. in Pembroke departed this life Thursday morning March 9, 2006 from Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg.

Born in Ripplemead on August 30, 1913 he was a son of the late Harry Hamilton and Della Fisher Douthat. He had been employed at various times in several endeavors in life but was retired from Standard Art Marble and Tile Co. in Washington, DC. He was an avid baseball fan and supporter of the Atlanta Braves and a devoted player when he was young. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Smith Douthat.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Sandra D. Simerly of Ripplemead; two grandchildren Angela S. Lang and husband Ricky, Scott E. Simerly and wife Batina Brown Simerly; three great-grandchildren Chad David Smith, Rachael Lang, and Sarah Lang; and a great-great-grandson Gabriel Smith; a brother Walter Ray Douthat of Pembroke and a sister Alva D. Martin of Pembroke; special cousins Frank S. Douthat of Newport and Joan Douthat Miller of Pembroke.

The family will receive friends at the Kendall Funeral Home at 605 Snidow St. in Pembroke Saturday evening from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 PM immediately after the visitation. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM in Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.
