Whitaker Jr., Guy Duff
Guy Duff Whitaker Jr., 83 of Pulaski, died early Monday morning January 28, 2008 at his residence.
He was born March 4, 1924, in Pulaski, and was the son of the late Ruth Pearson Whitaker and Guy Duff Whitaker Sr. He was retired with over 20 years of service to the Internal Revenue Service as a computer programmer. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corp., was a P.O.W., and received the Purple Heart. He later joined the United States Air Force Reserve, where he served and retired. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 14 in Pochahontas, Va., and was a past member of the Pulaski Elks Lodge #1067.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Edward Whitaker; two sisters, Betty Whitaker Calfee, and Mary Lee Whitaker; and one half brother, Edward Pearson.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Naomi Quesenberry Whitaker, of Pulaski; sons, Ronald Fred Whitaker, of Radford, and Dr. Guy Duff Whitaker, III, of Virginia Beach; daughters, Teresa Whitaker Hall, of Radford, Mary Lee True, of Bluemont, and Amy Holbrook, of Radford. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons with the Rev. Jim Alley officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home from 10 until 11 a.m. service time.
