Walker, Shirley K.

Shirley Katherine Walker, 76, of Bland passed away Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was born September 21, 1931 at Bastian, Va., the daughter of the late Harmon Gillespie and Minnie Lee Kidd Carter and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Ferrell “Blackie” Walker.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gilbert and Rena Walker, Bastian, Clifford and Lisa Walker, Bland, Gary and Sue Dodson Walker, Pearisburg; two sisters, Mary Akers, Rocky Gap, Irene Heileman, Bastian; five grandchildren, Tracy Garcia, Jennifer Freeman, Joey Walker, Angela Walker, Staci Walker; two great-grandchildren, Bree Freeman and Peter Thomas James; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate, with the Rev. Alan Ashworth officiating. Burial in Morning Star Cemetery, Bland. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.
