Collins, Luther E.

Luther Elwood Collins, 81, of Christiansburg, VA, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at 12:40 p.m. at Montgomery Regional Hospital.

He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the Army Air Force in Europe, and a 30 year employee of Poly Scientific in Blacksburg, VA. He was the son of the late Daniel Frank Collins and Effie Dillon Collins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel Frank, Jr.; and Lloyd Allen Collins, one sister, Jeanne Collins Simmons and husband, James L. Simmons, Col, USA.

He is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson Collins; one son, Elwood Collins and wife, Jane Sarver Collins of Christiansburg; one daughter, Diana Collins of Blacksburg; beloved grandchildren Kristin Collins Martin of Christiansburg; and Byron Johnson Collins and wife, Melissa Dawn Collins of Suffolk, VA; three great grandchildren, Gregory, Adam and Gabriel of Christiansburg. He is also survived by a brother, Charles R. Collins and wife LaVonnia L. Fern Collins; one sister, Fern Collins Gibson and husband Joe Gibson, all of Pocahontas, VA; one sister-in-law, Ruby Farrington Collins of Bossevain, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call the Horne Funeral Home Monday, March 6, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to sign the register. There will be no formal visitation. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Charles McHose officiating with VFW Post 1184 conducting full military honors.
