Conner, Mary Hazel Boone

wedding-ring-quilt.jpgMary Hazel Boone Conner, 95, of Copper Hill, Va., passed away Thursday, March 2, 2006 at her home.

She was born October 22, 1910 in Floyd County, Va., to the late Charles Emmett Boone and Mary Odessa Aldridge Boone. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Stonewall United Methodist/Brethren Church, as well as, a generous and loving mother. She was known for her beautiful quilts and bountiful meals served to relatives and friends.

Her husband, Oliver Noel Conner preceded her in death in 1996 after 64 years of marriage and she thought of him and missed him everyday. Also preceding in death were eight siblings, Andrew Boone, Alpha Link, Ella Poff, Vivian Board, Garnett Reed, Clifton Boone, Walter Boone and Clarence Boone.

Surviving are three children and their spouses, Mary Frances and Fred Williams, Pulaski; Noel Boone Conner, Copper Hill and his former wife Kay Mitchell, Powhatan, Carol and Dale Whittaker, Pearisburg; seven grandchildren and spouses, Mary Leigh Williams, Dublin, Mark Williams, his wife Martha and daughter Michelle, Mount Airy, N.C.; Brenda Conner Peyton, her husband Larry and their children, Jamie, Melanie, Mitchell and Juliann, Powhatan; Jennifer Conner Plummer, her husband Keith, and son Grayson, Midlothian, Va., Rhonda Whittaker Gusler, her husband, Mark, their children, Andrew and Molly, Pearisburg; Jeffrey Whittaker and wife Regina, their children, Todd, Maegan, Chana, Rachel, Gracie and John, Goodview, Craig Whittaker, his wife Clara, their children, Amelia, Susanne and Luke, Pearisburg; three sisters, Frances B. Lucas, Rocky Mount, Virginia B. Metzler, Salem, Peggy B. Ragland, Newport News; sister-in-law, Dare Vest Boone, Overland Park, Kan.; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Stonewall United Methodist/Brethren Church on Route 221, Floyd County with Pastor Dan Walker, the Rev. Elbert Lee Naff and her nephew the Rev. Layne Board officiating. Interment will follow in Wilson Cemetery, Check, Va.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Saturday at Gardner Funeral Home where the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Hazel loved flowers but had suggested memorial gifts be made to Stonewall United Methodist Church, C/O Debbie Collins, 1613 Kings Store Road NE, Check, Va. 24072 or Floyd County Rescue Squad, P O Box 257, Floyd, Va., 24091.
