Phillips, Larry Dale

Larry Dale Phillips, 50, of Willis, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Carilion Cancer Center, Roanoke, Va.

He is now present with the Lord Jesus Christ after a long courageous battle with cancer. Larry Dale was a talented musician who played the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and bass. He loved to get together with friends and play gospel and bluegrass music.

Larry Dale enjoyed the outdoors, farming, riding tractors, and restoring old Chevrolet vehicles and old Ford tractors.

He was blessed with many friends and greatly impacted those around him with his smile. As Larry Dale often said, “His sufferings could not be compared to the sufferings of His Lord Jesus Christ.” He fought the good fight of faith.

Special thanks to all of the nurses and physicians involved in his care and for those who held him up continually in prayer.

Surviving him are his sons, Dale Ray Phillips and James David Phillips, both of Willis, Va.; mother, Kate Cox Phillips of Willis, Va.; brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Nathan and Ester Phillips of Natural Bridge, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Dinah & Wesley Perdue of Willis, Va.; nephew, Brian Perdue; nieces, Dara Phillips, Kari Perdue, Candace Phillips, and Kimberly Tessar.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Kenneth Fogus, the Rev. Kenneth Poston, and the Rev. Nathan Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Big Sand Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd.
