Smith Jr., Jesse Lee

Jesse Lee Smith, Jr. 73, of Blacksburg, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Born in Alexandria, Va. on March 26, 1941 to the late Louise Connellee Smith and Jesse Lee Smith, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Benjamin Smith.

After raising a family and retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000, Jesse and Betty retired to Blacksburg where they met in 1959 while he was attending VPI. Until his health no longer allowed it, he enjoyed working with the wonderful people at University Kroger and later in Dining Service at Va. Tech.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Lee Winters Smith, and their three children, Janice Smith Stephens and husband, Edward, of Roanoke; Jesse Lee Smith, III and wife, Dee, of Naples, FL; and Lisa Lynn Smith, of Mebane, NC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sharon Ann Wood Owens and fiancé , Duane Hartwick; Zachary Michael Guilfoyle; Nathan Smith Guilfoyle; Benjamin Michael Wood “Ben”; Lindsey Louise Smith; Carl Sidney Wood; Patrick Charles Guilfoyle; Stephanie April Wood Conrad and husband, Eric Conrad; Paul Parker Patno, Jr.; Lance Eric Patno; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Landon, Tristan, Karma, Alexandra, Belle, Madison.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Wertz, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00pm Friday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home 150 Country Club Dr. SW, Blacksburg.
