Jones, Joyce Sheppard

Joyce Sheppard Jones, 54, of Newport departed this life suddenly on Sunday night May 18, 2014. She was born Jan. 8, 1960 to the late Archie and Dorothy Sheppard. Joyce worked at Hilltop Grocery, attended Christiansburg Congregational Holiness Church, and recently New Hope Church of God. A member of Newport Vol. Fire Dept. over 14 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Freddy L. Jones, brother Johnnie L. Sheppard, granddaughter, Katelynn Hutson. Survivors include her daughter, Amy Hutson (Chris), son, Gregory Jones (Grace), grandchildren, Gunner, Emma, Vayanna and Abby, canine companion, Kia, honorary granddaughter, Destini Stewart, brother, Rod Sheppard (Dorine), mother-in-law, Mary A. McGuire, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to Roechelle Breeding, Brenda Nunley, Bruce and Susan Keen, Mark and Karen Moore and all other close friends and family.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the New Hope Church of God with the Rev. T. Michael Bond, Rev. Jube Burke, Rev. Keith Graves, officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Gardens of the New River Valley Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are members of the firefighting community.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help off set burial expenses. Friends may call anytime after 4:30 pm at the New Hope Church of God, Christiansburg, and the family will receive friends from 5-8:00 pm Thursday at the church.
