Alvin Reed Mitchell, 83, of Floyd, passed away Tuesday August 7, 2007.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy B. Mitchell; brother and wife, Kevin and Carole Mitchell, Floyd, Va.; sister, Melva Stultz of Martinsville, Va.; nephews, Claude Stultz, Richmond, Va., Coy and Lucinda Mitchell, Floyd, Va., Clark Mitchell, Christiansburg, Va., Kreg Mitchell, Floyd, Va.; great-niece, Amber Mitchell, Floyd, Va.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Roy Turpin officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at Pleasant Valley Church. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Valley Cemetery, 4028 Alum Ridge Rd. Floyd, Va. 24091. Gardner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
