Akers, Ruth Roop

Ruth Roop Akers, 80, of Blacksburg, died August 4, 2007. She was born November 5, 1926 in Floyd County, Virginia.

She resided in Christiansburg most of her life while working for and retiring from Imperial Reading in Christiansburg. The last ten years of her life were spent in assisted living and nursing facilities in Blacksburg and Wytheville.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene “Gene” Akers, her parents Edgar Vanson and Elizabeth Epperly Roop and her brother, Dalton Roop.

Survivors include one sister, Annie Mae Gardner of Radford; and one brother, Edgar Vanson “E.V.” Roop, Jr., of Floyd. Also to cherish her memory are three nieces, Betty Lou Million of Hebron, Kentucky, Mary Elizabeth Roop of Floyd, and Peggy Lancaster of Christiansburg; three nephews, Vernon Roop of Bristol, Tennessee, Ray Gardner of Riner, and Doug Gardner of Radford; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at the Horne Funeral Service.
