Taylor Jr., Robert Milo

Robert Milo Taylor, Jr., of Burlington, N.C., died July 19, 2007 at the age of 88. Mr. Taylor was born in Christiansburg, Va., on January 31, 1919 to Robert Milo Taylor, Sr. and Lola Grissom Taylor.

He married Melissa Sue Pack of Blacksburg, Va., and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech) in Blacksburg in 1941 with a B.S. degree in ceramic engineering. During World War II, Mr. Taylor was a major in the Army Corps of Engineers and served primarily in the Philippines.

Most of his professional career was spent in the international division of A.P. Green Friebrick Company of Mexico, MO, which he joined in 1946. He was employed by the company 36 years, traveled more than 1.5 million miles, and worked in 16 countries. He and Mrs. Taylor also lived in England, Brazil and Venezuela. After retiring the couple lived on St. Simons Island, Ga., for 11 years until Mrs. Taylor’s death. Mr. Taylor moved to Burlington in 2001.

He is survived by daughter, Helen Taylor Clark and her husband, Robert, of Greensboro, N.C. and Jeannie Taylor Spangler and her husband, William, of Winters, Ca.; grandchildren, Stephen Taylor Clark, Julie Clark Pitts and her husband, Patrick, Timothy Spangler and his wife, Helen, and Taylor Spangler and his wife, Kerry; as well as seven great grandchildren.

Many personal and professional friends around the world maintained contact with Mr. Taylor. He was regarded as a true gentleman with whom no friend wanted to sever long standing ties.

A memorial service was held at the Foley Chapel at Twin Lakes, Burlington, on July 24, 2007. Burial will be in Blacksburg at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Methodist Church in Mexico or to the Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington.
