Johnson, Evelyn Joan Hourigan

Evelyn Joan Hourigan Johnson, 83, of the Poplar Hill community, Pearisburg, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2006 at New River Valley Medical Center.

She was born on August 14, 1922 in Newbridge, South Wales, Great Britain, the daughter of the late, George James and Evelyn Vines Hourigan. She married A. Richard Johnson on January 30, 1946.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, A. Richard Johnson; her children, Deanne J. Brandon, Los Angeles, Calif., the Rev. Terri Johnson Gregory, Woodlawn, Va. and Linda Johnson, Monroe County, W. Va.; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Brandon, Hollywood, Calif., Catherine Brandon, Guatemala, Central America, Eric and Jane Rupe, Galax; great-grandchildren, Kelly and Kyle Rupe; life-long friends, Bette Cresswell, Great Britain, Billy Perry, Northern, Va. and Louise Wilson, Pearisburg.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home, White Gate with the Rev. Terri Johnson Gregory officiating and music ministry by J.D. and Elsie Smith, Galax. Burial in the Walkers Creek Cemetery, White Gate. Visitation will be at the funeral home Monday after 1 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
