Carter, Nathan Joshua

Nathan Joshua Carter (Nate), 24, of Roanoke, Virginia, ran into the arms of the Lord on May 5, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Nate was born on September 22, 2000, in Lynchburg, Virginia.

It is said that the Lord doesn’t make mistakes, and those who knew Nate know that he embodied everything perfect in this world. Words that friends shared to describe Nate include “fun”, “charismatic”, “curious”, “loving”, and “inspiring”. What Nate was limited by physically was greatly made up for in his enormous personality. Always up for a good time, Nate never had a bad day and enveloped those in his life into his “world”. Nate was a local celebrity, and people were attracted to his lively personality and giant hugs. He never met a stranger and embraced all whom he came into contact with.

Growing up, Nate was never more than an arms-length away from his little brother. Regardless of whether they were watching movies, shooting basketball, or hitting wiffle balls, mischief was never too far away. As a youth, Nate was a member of the Middlebrook Livestock 4-H Club, where he not only spent hours in barns with his older siblings, but stepped into the show ring with a lamb of his own. A 2019 graduate of Stuarts Draft High School; Nate was a member of both the SDHS Unified/Champions Together Basketball and Track teams. He also spent countless hours at football stadiums, tracks, and baseball fields cheering on his older brother.

Nate attended Radford Church of God in Christ, where he was a member of Men’s Ministries as well as LIT Ministries. But, given his love for music, the Choir was his favorite ministry. He loved going shopping (the number of pairs of shoes this kid had was astounding), playing putt-putt, enjoying arcades, and driving bumper cars and go-karts. Nate was a connoisseur of all thing’s food, so he was always down for a trip to the local fast-food joints and sit-down restaurants.

Nate is survived by his parents, Jason Carter and Heather (Podgorski) Carter, and his siblings, Adam and his wife, Carlisle, Nathalie, and Wyatt; he was also an uncle to Lovett. Nate is also survived by his loving provider, Damion Neblett, and his family, as well as attendants who were like brothers to him. Nate had many friends and people who were like family in his life, who loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 17th at 1:00 pm at Radford Church of God in Christ in Radford. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm. Burial will be at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren in Stuarts Draft. A visitation in Stuarts Draft will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nate’s memory can be made to the Market Animal Show “Sunshine Class” at Augusta MAS, PO Box 2841, Staunton, Virginia 24402 (in the memo, write “Sunshine Class- in Memory of Nate Carter”) or LIT Ministries, Radford COGIC, 206 Russell
