Barbara Ann Lafon Lambert, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the care of Carilion Giles Community Hospital on May 30, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on May 27, 1952, in Virginia, Barbara lived a life marked by warmth, generosity, and a love for her community in Newport, Virginia.

Barbara’s early years were spent in Big Stoney Creek under the loving guidance of her parents, Bill and Ella Lafon. She grew to be a woman of strength and character, traits that were admired by all who knew her. Though she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James C. Lambert, and her parents, her legacy is carried on by her devoted son, James Lambert and his wife, Crystal, and her adored granddaughter, Mary Lambert. Barbara also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, who will fondly remember their aunt’s kindness and spirited nature.

For many years, Barbara was a familiar and friendly face in the food service department at Virginia Tech. Her dedication to her work was evident, and she took great pride in contributing to the daily life of the campus community. Colleagues and students alike were touched by her genuine care and commitment to service. Barbara’s involvement in her workplace went beyond her assigned duties, as she built lasting friendships and became an integral part of the Virginia Tech family.

Outside of work, Barbara had a zest for life that was contagious. She relished the simple pleasures of shopping, always on the lookout for that perfect find. Her love for going out to eat was more than just about the food; it was about the experience, the people, and the joy of a shared meal. Friends and family will remember Barbara’s laughter ringing out in restaurants, a sound as comforting as it was joyful.
