McMillion, Danny Ray

Danny Ray McMillion, 76, of Peterstown, WV, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Born April 18,1948, in Peterstown, WV, he was the son of the late Edmund H. McMillion and Nellie Knapp McMillion.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edmund Hale McMillion, Jr. in 2012.

Danny worked briefly at the Hercules Plant in Covington, VA, and retired from Celanese in Narrows, VA. He was a member of the Peterstown United Methodist Church, Peterstown Ruritan, and John Dove Lodge #78 A.F. & A.M. of Peterstown, WV. Additionally, he was a veteran of the United States Army.

Danny’s love and commitment to his local community was evident, as he was a volunteer with the Peterstown Fire Department and Rescue Squad for more than 45 years. On April 2, 2024, Danny became ill while working on the scene of a motor vehicle accident with the Peterstown Rescue Squad, which he never recovered from. He was beloved by everyone who knew him, and his presence will be sorely missed by everyone in the community.

Left to cherish his memory are his eight first cousins, Alice Godfrey, Catherine McGraw, Rebecca Goolsby, Hubert Humphrey, Charles Humphrey, Alice Holland, Mary Bryant, and Brenda Campbell and families, as well as extended family at the Peterstown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, of which Danny was very proud.

In lieu of flowers, it was Danny’s request that memorial contributions be made to the Peterstown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad (P.O. Box 128, Peterstown, WV 24963).

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home in Peterstown, WV, with Barry Harper officiating.

Burial will follow at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA. Members of the Peterstown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
