Browning, Connie Ray

Connie Ray Browning, 90, of Floyd, entered the Gates of Heaven on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Connie’s life was devoted to God and his family.

He had been a member of Floyd Baptist Church since 1962. For many years he was a member of the Choir, and taught Sunday School. He was a Deacon for most of those years and believed in serving others. Connie was a long time employee at Citizens Telephone Cooperative. He retired after 38 years of service.

Connie served our country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, followed by 22 years in the National Guard. Connie led by example and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and brother in Christ. He loved his family and loved life.

Connie was born at home in George’s Fork, Dickenson County, VA, on July 17 1933. He was the oldest child born to Berlin and Eula Hawkins Browning. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nina Hollandsworth Browning; his youngest daughter, Regina Dawn Browning; granddaughter-in-law, Eva Thompson; two sisters, Christine Mullins and Joyce Fleeman; two brothers, Johnny Browning and Eugene Hill; four brothers-in-law, Hershel Mullins, Charles (Bud) Fleeman, Harry Adams, and Roy Brown; two sisters -in-law, Nancy White Browning, and Trudy Browning.

Connie is survived by three children and their spouses; Carlotta (Steve) Eaton, Charlotte NC; Michael (Sarah) Browning, Copper Hill; and Angela (David) Thompson, Floyd. Five grandchildren and their spouses; Cassandra (Andy) Shortt, Charlotte, NC; Ryan (Sarah) Browning, Troutville; Matthew (Stephanie) Browning, Troutville; Amanda (Alex) Wilkens, Christiansburg; Christopher Thompson, Floyd. Eleven great-grandchildren; Avery, Cole and Asher Shortt, Abigail, Hannah and Peyton Browning, Elliana, Adelyn and Myra Jane Browning, Beckham Wilkens, and Demitrious Dyer. Also surviving are his siblings; Paul (Mary) Hill, Tucson, AZ; Sandra Adams, Radford; Harry (Gail) Hill, Bristol; Darrell (Rose) Browning, Waddell, AZ; Berlena Aliff, Wise; Margret (Bill) Huband, Wise; Marvin (Sherrie) Browning, Wise. Many Nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 13, from 5-7 PM, at Gardner Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 14, at 11 AM, at Floyd Baptist Church, with grandson Matthew Browning, Rev. Dan Agee, and Rev. Joe Womack officiating. Interment will follow in Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
