Perdue, Roven Jackson

Roven Jackson Perdue of Ripplemead, VA passed away peacefully on February 12, 2024, in his home. Born on March 27, 1931, in Pearisburg, VA, Roven was a cherished son to the late James Edward Perdue and Glenna Gray Blankenship Perdue, and a beloved brother to his eight siblings, Ruth Russ, Lillie Smith, Edith Goad, Maxine Riddle, Ilene Harrison, Cloye Bird, James Perdue Jr, Henry Perdue, and Bobby Perdue who preceded him in death.

Roven’s life was one marked by dedication and love. He was the devoted husband of Joann Philpott Perdue for 69 years, a testament to their enduring partnership and deep affection. Together, they raised a family that became Roven’s pride and joy. Their legacy includes their son Greg Perdue and his special friend Malisa Dowdy, their daughter Sharon Ellington and her husband Joe, and grandchildren: Michael Perdue, Dana Ellington, Alyssa Romeo, Erica Ellington, and Joe Ellington III. Roven’s joy multiplied with the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Hayley Perdue, Aiden Perdue, Skylar Mullins, Adalyn Mullins, Bentley Dickens, and Clara Clark, each of whom added a sparkle to his eyes and warmth to his heart.

Professionally, Roven was a respected agent for Norfolk and Southern Railroad, where his commitment and work ethic were well-known. Roven’s passions were as rich and varied as the Virginia landscape he so loved. His farm was not only a place of work but a canvas for his tireless spirit. The joy he found in tending to the land was mirrored in his outdoor hobbies which include being an avid camper, hunter, and fisherman.

There will be a funeral service conducted for Roven on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 2:00 PM in Birchlawn Abbey with Pastor Shahn Wilburn officiating. Roven will be laid to rest in Birchlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will have a time of visitation with family and friends on Thursday, February 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM in Birchlawn Abbey.
