Conner, James Robert Lee

James Robert Lee Conner 86, Rich Creek, VA., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. James was born on August 16, 1937, in Giles County, VA and was a son of the late Henry Herbert Conner and Eresha Burton Conner. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Woody Conner, Tommy Conner, Clifford Conner, Frank Conner, Allen Conner and 1 sister, Bonnie C. Sargis.

James was a retired employee from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant where he proudly worked for over 30 years. James had a passion and love of music. His musical talents included playing guitar and harps. James was a humble heart that selflessly gave to others and never turned anyone away that needed help. If they could not provide for themselves, he would find a way to provide it for them. James had a vivacious, and charismatic personality. He would always find a joke to suite the situation to bring joy and laughter to those that struggled. James’ second love was gardening, which the benefits of his fruition went to family and friends. His true love was family and friends. James never held back his heart and spoke what was on his mind. You always knew where you stood with him. He was a gentle soul and loyal friend. He would say, “No matter how hard life gets, don’t give up”.

He is survived by, 3 sisters, Donna C. Walker of Raliegh, NC, Ivalene C. Waldron (John) of Peterstown, WV, Patsy C. Rogers (Steve) of Greensburg, PA, 1 brother, Arvin H. Conner of Pasadena TX, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted, Thursday, February 1, 2024, at 2pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, VA with the Rev. Joseph Pack officiating with burial following in the Burton Cemetery in Pearisburg, (Guina Mtn). The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 hour before the service, from 1 – 2 pm.
