Black, Joel M.

Joel “Jake” Black, age 69 of Pulaski, Virginia, passed away on Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Pulaski Health & Rehabilitation Center. Jake was born on October 21, 1955, in Pulaski, Virginia, to the late Harvey Nathaniel Black, Sr. and Yvonne Webb Black. Jake was preceded in death by his sisters Monica Black, Meshell Black, Donna Smith, brother-in-law Ronnie Godfrey, and sister-in-law Mary Black.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Lya Robinson of Jacksonville, Florida, six grandchildren Trenton Smith, Elijah, Jenesys, Zy’ana, Blessing, and Trinity Honester. Also surviving are his two sisters, Vanessa Black of Pulaski, Virginia, and Deborah Godfrey of Christiansburg, Virginia, his brother Harvey Black, Jr. of Dublin, Virginia, brother-in-law Terry Smith, Sr. of Pulaski, Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Jake was a stranger to no one and loved his grandchildren with all his heart. He loved attending church and made that a staple in his life. He was an admirer of racing and loved anything to do with cars. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. Jake fell in love with Augusta, Georgia making it his home for the majority of his life. Jake was truly loved by his family and friends and will forever be missed.

A funeral service will be held 1:00PM on Friday, December 22, 2023, at First Baptist Church Magazine Street Pulaski. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Friends may visit at Serenity 248 Randolph Ave. on Thursday from 4-6PM for viewing. The interment will be held in Pinehurst Cemetery. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
